Meet the artist

BETH ALICE RUBENSTEIN

Married for 30 years, I am an Artist who dabbles at being a housewife. My MOD*POP*Folk style makes people smile. My studio has seen a wide variety of fun, quirky and colorful designs with exceedingly happy themes and original quips & quotes. My work appeals to all ages.

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Northern Michigan University in  Marquette, Michigan, my hometown where I grew up. I worked in oncology and substance abuse where my cheery disposition kept me going for a time until my passion for painting developed through the years. My drive to generate paintings wasn’t in full swing until moving to Reno in 1996.

I find donating my work to auctions and fundraisers a particularly gratifying task. I love the challenge to meet deadlines for art groups, organizations and charities. Long before I was a working artist, I remember the thrill of attending charity art auctions and finding great one-of-a-kind pieces that seemed to be made just for me. I truly appreciated the artist that donated work to a good cause.

Just ask my friends or anyone who has spent time in my studio. I am a serious painter who has prolific and versatile talents. My work is art you can live with something special that you take home with you. If I have a following it’s with people who have enjoyed the sense of humor in my work. My first solo art show was in 2005. Since then my personal life has been overwhelmed with changes which have affected my creativity in many positive ways. My father passed away in 2006 just two weeks before our only child moved away to a university in the Midwest. Soon after that, my mother left Reno to be closer to my sister in another state. Suddenly "empty nest" caused a change in lifestyle. My husband and I have been living two lives, one in Reno and the other in Carmel-by-the-Sea traveling between two studios since 2007.

I have taken these changes to heart and become more determined than ever to spend as much time and effort doing what makes me happy as a painter.  My style is maturing and becoming more realistic. Loving friends who have watched my progress as a professional artist have told me that even though I’ve “grown up” I haven’t lost my sense of humor.  I’ve “advanced to the next step” with an urgency to paint my surroundings. This thrills me and I hope you, too. Please visit EVENTS at www.bethsgallery.com
